Candice Miller

Mother, Wife, Co-Founder of Mama & Tata

WHAT’S YOUR MOTTO?

Live from love, not from fear.

You be you.

Family is everything!

WHAT’S ON YOUR NIGHTSTAND?

Too much!

2 photos of my girls, a photo of me and my husband, fresh flowers, an Alexandra von Furstenberg box filled with photo booth pictures of family vacations, my glass flask filled with water, my Tata Harper Bedtime Aroma Therapy Oil.

WHAT GIVES YOU GOOSE BUMPS?

The good kind: My girl’s belly laughter, when my husband says how much he loves me.

And the worst kind: when I see a phone call from school on my caller ID.

WHAT IS YOUR BAD DAY BACKUP PLAN?

Call my masseuse, Tina, for an at-home visit. Go see my healer, Louise Amar, for a much needed session. Have a good bottle of red wine ready at all times.

WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR?

My 2 little girls, my husband, my family, my health.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?

Success is creating a loving, nurturing family life. Instilling love, loyalty, truth and kindness in my children.

Having a healthy, beautiful marriage.

Having passion and love for what you create.

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?

Always work on yourself, it’s a process.

Stay authentic to who you are and what you believe in.

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER GIVEN?

To my sister when she was becoming a Mother, “All children need is love, if they have that, they can do anything.”

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW THAT YOU ARE EXCITED ABOUT?

We are featuring a few healthy, organic children’s food delivery services that will be nationwide shortly, and the idea of having these incredible options for our children is very exciting. I also found a wonderful healer/shaman in Brooklyn who refers to herself as Mama Medicine, and a session with her is life-altering! She is like an angel, and I cannot wait to share her story with my audience.

HOW DO YOU PRESS PAUSE?

I go to the Tracy Anderson Studio for 2 hours to sweat, clear my mind, and regroup.

WHAT DID YOUR 8-YEAR-OLD SELF LOVE DOING?

I was a ballerina. I loved to dance then, just like I love dancing now.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE MAGIC POWER WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Sorry, I chose two!

I would heal! I’d love the ability to make everyone around me feel good and healthy.

I would fly! I’m constantly rushing around this city between my kid’s, work, and social obligations and I cannot seem to ever arrive on time. Wings would be very helpful!

WHAT MAKES YOU FORGET TO EAT?

My “shoot” days at work each week, they are all back-to-back, and I never have time to stop anywhere because I’m always rushing. Food has to take a back seat on those days.

Holiday season, as well! I’m so busy researching and finding gifts for everyone I know, that I forget about food. However, do not worry, as soon as vacation arrives, it’s ALL about indulgent eating!

WHAT 3 THINGS WOULD YOU GRAB IN A FIRE?

My 2 girls and my husband! Everything else is replaceable.

WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING YOU’VE EVER DONE – YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE?

Working on the creation of Mama & Tata definitely took away from some family time.  It was difficult handling the guilt I felt spending time away from my girls.  However, I think it was well-worth it, plunging into a business that allows me to express myself and simultaneously help other Mothers. My girls enjoy watching me on the job, and love when they get a chance to participate in some of our features, so I feel like what I’m doing is inspiring them. The beginning was challenging, but I found a good balance.

FAVORITE WORD?

Truth.

FAVORITE WORK OF ART?

Anything by Pollock or de Kooning – I’m a big fan of abstract expressionism.
